Description

Computer Navigated and Handheld Robotic Knee Arthroplasty: An Illustrative Guide is a compendium of principles and practices of using technology to improve outcomes of partial and total knee arthroplasty. The first two chapters describe the basics of computer-assisted surgery and setting up the operation theater. Chapters 3 and 4 describe varus and valgus deformities, and their association with sagittal plane deformity. The interplay and influence of one over the other are described with the help of clinical pictures and case examples. Chapters 5 and 6 include severe sagittal plane deformity (full flexion deformity, recurvatum) and an algorithmic approach to correct both. Chapters 7 to 9 are on complex cases such as extra-articular deformity, implants in situ, etc., and describe the principles of managing these complex cases with representative examples. Chapters 10 and 11 cover partial and total knee arthroplasty with handheld robotics. This new technology helps in better assessment of soft tissue behavior aand aids in improved implantation considering individual knee kinematics.

Key Features

  • Some conventional concepts in knee arthroplasty have been questioned and new ideas presented with the help of objective data.
  • Important concepts are highlighted in Principles, Pearls, Pitfalls, and Points to Remember sections in each chapter.
  • Written in a lucid, point-wise format, substantiated with interesting case examples.
This book will be useful to the mentor and mentee alike.

Anoop Jhurani, MBBS, MS Orthopaedics, RORF Fellowship, Joint Replacement Surgery (HSS, NY, USA)is Director of Joint Replacement Services at Fortis Escorts Hospital, Jaipur, Rajasthan. He is a contemporary thought leader in the field of computer-assisted and robotic joint replacement surgery. He is well known in the arthroplasty community for his innovative teaching style and publications. His main interest is in evaluating unique kinematic patterns of every knee and customizing the operation according to the patient’s anatomy and ligament tension. This book is a culmination of his decade-long observation of knee behavior and analysis of data accumulated from computer and robotic-assisted surgery.

Piyush Agarwal, MBBS, MS Orthopaedics, is Consultant for Joint Replacement Services at Fortis Escorts Hospital, Jaipur, Rajasthan. His main interest has been to assess knee kinematics with help of technology and to balance the knee with conservative bone cuts and minimum thickness insert. He has authored many peer-reviewed papers and book chapters along with Dr. Anoop Jhurani.
